Bites are responsible for thousands of paediatric visits to the emergency department(ED) each year. The ED nurse must be prepared to recognize to treat the child who presents with a toxic envenomation from a number of sources, including spiders, scorpions and snakes. In bites, the child receives a larger amount of venom per kilogram of body weight than an adult. The more minor the child, the greater is the threat to the child’s health.
